So today would have been Julia Child's 100th birthday. (Side note, it's also the birthday of my brother-in-law and my spectacular former roomate/fourth grade drama camp bff). Interestingly enough, I put out about a million "Happy Birthday" dessert plates at work today. I'm not sure what was going on nine months ago. Yikes.
We've been celebrating Julia Child for a week at work by making a crap ton of vichyssoise, cherry clafoutis, and frisee salad with poached eggs. I haven't mastered the art of French cooking, but I definitely need a break from cold potato soup. Is it very American of me to have an urge to heat some up and throw in a bunch of bacon and cheddar? Don't answer that.
Anywho, given the culinary goddess's birthday is today, I figured it would be a good time to pick back up with the blog. See, I've been a wee bit busy. I got engaged a month ago! So I've been elbow deep in band contracts and invitation paper swatches. But now that the initial players are secured and I'm guaranteed to have a wedding with music and food, I can finally come up for air.
Fear not, though. In my absence, I've still been cooking. I made this sweet sprinkle cake for my friend Talla's birthday:
(Her birthday is NOT today). But she loves sprinkles.
I also ate the most gigantic shrimps I've ever seen in my life:
Do you appreciate my 1990's hotel presentation of a shrimp cocktail? I sure do. I think more foods should be eaten out of martini glasses. Lord knows, I can't drink out of martini glasses (without spilling vodka all over my chin, anyway).
The point is, I just downloaded 189 photos from my iPhone to my computer. Most of them are of cupcakes. I'm prepared to give you a play by play of all of the awesome things I've been cooking, even if you don't want to hear about it.
YESSSS! I've been waiting for this moment for so long!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing I wasn't near those jumbo shrimp because I'M ALLERGIC TO OXYMORONS!
