Scenes from Halloween

This morning, as I was making hamburger buns, I came to the realization that I am decidedly in a Halloween slump.  I've passed the age where it's appropriate to dress up like a skanky nurse/cat/bunny and gyrate at bars (though -- let's be honest, is that EVER really appropriate?) and not yet at the age where I have my own kids to tote around for trick or treating and dress up like witches and Harry Potter characters.  My current Halloween celebrations consist of binging on pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin beers, and sour patch kids. Please note that this is the recipe for the worst hangover of your life.

CANDY!

Growing up, Halloween was my absolute favorite holiday.  In fact, I usually had a Halloween birthday party, despite the fact that my birthday is at the end of November. One year, my mom converted our basement into a terrifying haunted house, complete with dry ice and Zombie-fied older siblings scaring the crap out of all of my friends. It. Was. Amazing.

I went all out on the costumes - Morticia Adams, Snow White, Cleopatra… basically anyone with black hair and pasty pasty skin. At least I understood my niche, even as a little kid.

Flashing to present day, my hardboiled egg exploded and it looked like Casper the Friendly Ghost. I mean….amiright?! ooooEEEEEoooo

Last year's Halloween was slightly more exciting, with the added drama of LOSING MY ENGAGEMENT RING IN A LITTLE KID'S TRICK OR TREAT BAG. It was probably the worst thing that's ever happened to me. Worse than getting hit by a car, for sure (I'm speaking from experience).  I swore that I'd never celebrate halloween again… yet here I am, ready to watch Hocus Pocus on repeat.

Love these little singing ghostie cookies that I made!  Actually, they are in shock after hearing the story of my engagement ring caper.

(But not everyone is thrilled about being universally feared).

I hope that your Halloween is full of lots of treats and not too many tricks!!  Save some baby ruths for me! xo.
